For an office/library in Southern California, I designed a custom built-in bookcase for my client.

The concept for the room is inspired by travels in Africa and the British Colonial camps in the bush.

I admired the styling of Singita Private Game Reserve in South Africa and loved the bookcases in their library:  the open shelving, the molding, the attached library lamps.

I translated this for my client while adding my modern approach by painting the bookcase the same color to match the walls.

By doing this, the room is unified visually and does not appear closed off by the built-in unit.

The back of the bookcase is painted teal green to provide and interesting backdrop for the collections of books and artifacts.
